Yarudora Portable : Blood The Last Vampire [CHN]

Game Info:
Saya is the last of her kind and an original vampire. There are no others. However, there's a vampiric adjunct known as Chiropterans which are demonic creatures with a vampire-like thirst for blood. In the Blood movie, Saya dispatched a few disguised Chiropterans with steel-jawed determination within the confines of a military base in Yokota. Silent, somber, and apparently peeved 24 hours a day, Saya cut an impressive form while in action. In the PSP game, the scenery changes to Tokyo where the protagonist is a high school student plagued by nightmares and bursting with inordinate skills...

Originally released on the PS2 in late 2000, Sony published Blood in two separate volumes released on the same day. The PSP version compiles both volumes into a seamless interactive adventure game. Rudimentary controls are used during the game to select conversation snippets to activate when interacting with characters, parents, and Saya. Similarly simple controls are used to conduct Blood Searches which break the flow of the adventure and activate the protagonist's power. Although there are many forks and routes in the game, four main story arcs override the adventure which lead to different situations and endings. Saya returns to reprise her role as the last Vampire and crosses paths with the protagonist throughout the adventure.

The PSP version of the game features an updated CG gallery with more images from Production I.G. and the ability to watch various game cinemas over and over again after progressing through key points in the adventure.

Winning Eleven : Ubiquitous Evolution 2008

Game Info:
The key to Winning Eleven 2008 is a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision. Unique to the Konami game, Teamvision is a sophisticated AI programming that learns and adapts according to an individual's style of play. As such, it will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements and previous attacking or defensive errors, ensuring games are more in line with the tactical but flowing nature of the real thing.

With the Winning Eleven series renowned for its fluid, realistic gameplay, the new game builds on the implementation of Teamvision with additional key advances. As with previous releases since its inception in 1996, the ball is again treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.

Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008's on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high stakes match. Set-pieces have been improved, with full control given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team.
Player detail has been taken to incredible levels with full facial animation and the high-definition detail afforded by the hardware used to show full movement and subtle details to the various kits during the course of a match. All 'Next Gen' versions will also benefit from an extensive Edit mode, allowing gamers to customize their PES experience.

Talkman : Travel [J]

talkman-sony-psp01

Game Info:
If you're a Japanese speaking world traveler who enjoys seeing the sights and hearing the sounds of foreign lands, you basically have two options to get around once the plane reaches your destination:

1) Learn the language of the country you're visiting
2) Bring a dictionary along or hire a tour guide who'll hold your hand

The first option isn't practical if your language learning aptitude is rusty. You certainly don't want to blurt out "Take me to the gulag" when you really meant to say, "I wish to visit the theater." The second option may work better but if you're fumbling around the street thumbing through a 1000 page dictionary, local thieves will have found their mark of the day

Sony's Talkman Travel offers a third option for travelers - a foreign language interpreter which translates words and phrases from Japanese into the local language. Three countries are supported: South Korea, Taiwan, and China (Shanghai). If you travel to South Korea, set the country in the software accordingly and preset phrases and questions which cover common subjects or inquiries are shown on screen which are accessible through a simple menu. You'll be able to ask for directions, suggestions on restaurants, the location of the lavatory, and other life savers. Just make sure you turn the volume of the PSP way up so that the foreigner can hear Talkman's voice.

Star Ocean : The First Departure [J]

Game Info:
Enix originally released Star Ocean on the Super Famicom in July 1996 and the space opera of an RPG was a big seller and garnered favorable press from the likes of Famitsu and Famimaga. The game stood at 48 megabits which was massive back in the day and featured voice samples, vibrant music, and the graphics pushed the envelope of what was capable on the SFC. Fast forward over a decade later and Square Enix remakes the game with crisp animation sequences from Production I.G. and uses the Star Ocean: Second Story engine to power the adventure. The PSP remake also features new characters, spoken dialogue to accompany the conversations, and in-game cinemas to help relay the tale as important events transpire.

Star Ocean follows the story of a lad named Ratix Farrence who hails from Clatos Village. Along with Milly Kiliet and Dorn Matro, the trio protects their village from invading pirates. At the outset of the game, Ratix is speaking to his friend Dorn when Milly makes a grand entrance. From there, Ratix and friends can explore Clatos and then return home to trigger the next event where groups of sword-wielding pirates threaten the peace. Face them and engage in action-packed fighting sequences where players take control of Ratix and run and chop at enemies. While Ratix and Dorn do the attacking, Milly provides healing services in the background to make sure the two warriors don't succumb from their wounds. After rousting the enemy forces, the three friends return to Ratix's home where his mother gives the trio some refreshments to partake.

From there, Ratix and friends can explore nearby towns and eventually do a little invading of their own by entering the Velcant Lair which is the pirate's hideout...

Game Info:

Sega Rally Revo goes next gen, with dynamically deformable terrain - from gravel-littered tracks and smooth tarmac roads, to snow-covered mountain passes.

The introduction of SEGA Rally to the arcades in 1995 had the single biggest impact on the racing genre. Subsequent console rally games concentrated on a realistic simulation of the sport, but their popularity, reflected in sales, steadily dropped over the last decade. Now, SEGA Rally is back and set to reinvigorate the genre with the vital ingredients that many of the modern racers lack fun, character and beauty, with few rally games able to match its unique and rewarding experience.
